Structured Synthetic Phonics

Our dedicated Myrrhee teachers and support staff understand the importance of phonics and Structured Synthetic Phonics (SSP) in their successful teaching.

Myrrhee makes use of the brilliant phonic resources and activities by PLD.

Students have been involved in school-wide morning phonics sessions, which have proved beneficial to both the students and teachers. All juniors, middle grades and seniors have made great progress already.

We have seen evidence that direct systematic instruction or SSP is an important foundation for teaching our Myrrhee students to read.

Our approach in our Myrrhee 'Sounds' sessions are helping to support reading accuracy, fluency, writing, spelling and comprehension.

Health and Physical Education

Each term this year, Myrrhee School will focus on different sporting programs.

In Term 1, Myrrhee School had a weekly Gymnastics session for students.

This weekly program taught our students how to move and enjoy fitness through a wide-range of gym activities, to help them grow physically, socially and cognitively.

Students were able to use our school gymnastics equipment during every session, where they explored 'Dominant Movement Patterns' (DMPs) .

DMP's -  Statics, Locomotion, Spring, Landing, Swing, Rotation and Object Manipulation.

These DMP's developed students' movement skills, while strengthening their muscles.

This improved stability, balance, and coordination. Students also practised stretching to help maintain their muscle health as well.

All skills help to assist our students with learning.

During Term 2 students will focus on athletics and basketball.
